NETSCOUT extends DDoS protection to stop attacks at the source
N
ETSCOUT has extended its Adaptive DDoS Protection( ADP) solution to enable service providers to automatically detect and mitigate outbound DDoS attack traffic.
By extending protection from the attack target towards its source, NETSCOUT aims to help operators prevent compromised subscriber devices from disrupting their networks, consuming costly capacity and attacking customers and organisations across the Internet. visibility to derive localized threat intelligence for our customers, NETSCOUT can identify and precisely suppress attacks at their origin, before they cause problems locally or at their target. This capability gives our customers a new level of comprehensive defense across their peering, transit, cloud and customer edges.”
Consumer broadband routers, cameras and other IoT devices are increasingly being weaponised by Turbo-Mirai-class botnets capable of generating multi-terabit attacks. These outbound attacks have already caused costly service outages, reputational damage and customer losses. They can also damage peering relationships, potentially resulting in significantly higher transit costs for service providers.
By detecting and mitigating malicious traffic generated by compromised device populations before it leaves their networks, service providers can reduce abuse complaints and infrastructure costs while protecting their networks and services. The approach can also help reduce subscriber churn and regulatory risk.
“ We are extending DDoS defense from the target to the source,” stated Darren Anstee, CTO, Security, NETSCOUT.“ By using our internet-scale

Cloudflare: Hyper-volumetric DDoS attacks surge amid geopolitical tensions
loudflare has released its DDoS Threat Report H1 2026, revealing a
C rapidly evolving threat landscape increasingly influenced by geopolitical tensions and major international events.
During the first half of 2026, Cloudflare mitigated an average of 5,343 network-layer DDoS attacks every hour. Hyper-volumetric attacks also increased sharply, with the company mitigating 935 attacks exceeding 1 Tbps. Attacks above this threshold surged 519 % between the first and second quarters.
Geopolitical developments had a noticeable impact on targeting. Following military strikes involving Israel, the US and Iran in late February, the government sector climbed 20 places, from 29th among the most targeted industries in Q1 to ninth in Q2.
Major events also attracted attackers. Turkey became the third most-attacked
Ercan Aydin, AVP, Middle East, Türkiye & Africa at Cloudflare country in Q2, with attack traffic more than doubling during security preparations for the Ankara NATO Summit. Media, production and publishing remained the most-attacked industry across both quarters, accounting for 14.2 % of mitigated HTTP DDoS traffic.
Attack techniques also evolved. DNS-based attacks increased from 25.7 % to 40 % of network-layer attacks quarter-on-quarter, while CLDAP floods surged 881.9 %.
Ercan Aydin, AVP, Middle East, Türkiye & Africa at Cloudflare, said:“ The latest DDoS data shows that organisations in the Middle East and Africa cannot view availability as a purely technical concern. In a region where geopolitical developments can quickly translate into digital disruption, organisations need to be prepared for attacks that can escalate in both scale and sophistication with little warning.”
